Consultation has concluded

Main Roads WA have released the first draft design for upgrades to the intersection of Scarborough Beach Road, Main Street, Green Street and Brady Street.

The City of Vincent and the City of Stirling would like to know what you think of the draft concept design so that Main Roads can consider all community feedback before proceeding with the next stage of design.

The project is funded by the State Government and aims to improve safety for all road users.

The proposed design is based on traffic data, accident and congestion statistics, engineering design standards and consultation with the local community.

The design features a full movement roundabout at the intersection of Scarborough Beach Road and Green Street plus upgrades to cycling routes, pedestrian infrastructure and landscaping.

A draft concept design is pictured below. More perspectives of the draft design are available to view in the image gallery here.

The proposed full movement roundabout will greatly improve safety and efficiency for all road users by:

  1. Eliminating the existing two-stage road crossing from westbound Green Street onto Scarborough Beach Road. This will allow the intersection to be more free-flowing and removes the dangerous crossover,
  2. Providing a safe right-turn option from westbound Scarborough Beach Road onto Green Street,
  3. Allowing right-turn movements from eastbound Scarborough Beach Road to Brady Street, and
  4. Improving pedestrian and cycling safety, with a new shared path south of Scarborough Beach Road between Main Street/Brady Street and the new proposed Green Street roundabout, a raised pedestrian crossing on Scarborough Beach Road and full pedestrian green crossings at the Main Street traffic lights.

Please be aware that as part of this plan, the current one-way access into Birrell Street will be closed to accommodate the proposed roundabout.

A full description of the proposal is available to view from the document library here. This includes full details of the proposed cycling and walking routes, modifications to traffic flow and landscaping treatments.

This concept design has been developed by Main Roads WA and is based on community consultation conducted by the office of John Carey MLA, including two letter drops to the local area and a community workshop at the City of Vincent attended by over 100 residents in November 2019.
