Consultation has concluded

The City is proposing to rename the laneway that is located between Glendower, Irene, Bulwer and Lake Streets, Perth.

The section of laneway is currently named Primrose Street. Renaming this section of Primrose Street will correct a street numbering issue. The street numbers on Primrose Street, beginning at 1, start next to the intersection of Irene Street. Should any properties on the Eastern section of Primrose Street require numbering due to a subdivision, then the numbering on the Western section of Primrose Street would have to be reset. This would require 13 properties to change their address number. In order to avoid this hassle for the residents and landowners on the Western portion of Primrose Street, renaming the Eastern portion of Primrose Street is the preferred process.

The proposed name (Moreton Lane) relates to the nearby Moreton Bay Fig trees in Hyde Park. Many of these Australian native trees are found in Hyde Park and are well-known for their age and prominence within the park. Hyde Park in Perth is listed on the State and Municipal heritage inventories for its value as a place of passive recreation, social interaction, and as a place of scientific and historic importance. Many of the current mature trees in Hyde Park date back to the early 1900s. The park’s collection of mature trees, including the Moreton Bay Figs, is vital to its importance as a source of aesthetic and recreational enjoyment for the community.

Moreton Lane satisfies Landgate’s criteria for a road name in that it:

  • is a single name element followed by a road type;
  • does not duplicate an existing road name within the local government area; and
  • the name is not used in an existing street or place in WA.

Moreton Lane does not satisfy the Landgate criteria in that it:

  • is more than six letters long.

This does not disqualify the name from being considered by Landgate after community approval.

Moreton Lane is considered pursuant to Criteria 4 of the City’s Road Naming Criteria – Flora and fauna local to the area in which the naming proposal is located.

Where is the lane?

The lane identified for naming is located between Glendower, Irene, Bulwer and Lake Streets, Perth.

The lane consists of Lot 20 on Plan 1257 and Lot 30 on Plan 580.

About the process

This laneway proposal was submitted to the City of Vincent by a community member. If a consultation receives community support, the City will submit a road naming application to Landgate. Landgate will then approve or deny the application.
