Local Law Review

To meet our statutory obligations and ensure we are meeting the needs of our community, we have conducted a review of the City’s local laws. Local governments are required to do this at least once every eight years.

As a result of this review, the following local law amendments are proposed.

Local Government Property Local Law Amendment

The proposed amendments to the Local Government Property Local Law 2008 aim to:

• remove provisions to make it easier to advertise on a portable sign on local government property
• increase the deterrent for causing damage to local government property or using local government property for a commercial activity without a permit;
• increase the efficiency in the management (beautification) of verges;
• deter damage or removal of trees on verges, thoroughfares or local government property;
• prohibit and effectively deter the use of recording devices within change rooms; and
• better align the local law with the City’s current objectives and processes;

Trading in Public Places Local Law Amendment

The proposed amendments to the Trading in Public Places Local Law 2008 aim to:

• align with the City’s online permit process for outdoor eating areas, goods, display and portable advertising signage;
• manage the placement of portable advertising signage on local government property;
• simplify the requirements relating to the Permit Free Entertainer Zones; and
• make administrative modifications to better align the local law with the City’s current objectives and processes;

The amendments to the Trading in Public Places Local Law 2008 have resulted in the need for a new policy to govern street entertainment.

Street Entertainment Policy

The proposed new Policy No. 3.10.1 – Street Entertainment is to provide guidance on the requirements for street entertainers within the City of Vincent.
