What is the landscape plan for the park?
Please refer to the Birdwood Square Landscape Plan, in the Documents section.
What is happening to the playground?
To accommodate the new facility, the relocation of the playground will be required.
The playground at Birdwood Square has been a hit with the community for more than 20 years. Understandably, the playground is looking a little tired and is soon to reach its end of usable life and requires a makeover.
To maximise the park’s layout, the playground will be moved and relocated near the new facility. You are invited to help shape and inform the new playground, please take this opportunity to have your say.
Where can I play while the playground is under construction?
Alternative locations include:
When will the works take place?
The works will take place from April through to November 2024.
When will the facility be open?
The toilet and changeroom facility are expected to open late June 2024.
The new playground is expected to open mid-November 2024
Why is the new toilet facility needed?
Vincent is committed to supporting the community’s recreational needs. Local sporting clubs and Highgate Primary are growing and requiring increased access to our sporting reserves. Unfortunately, due to the lack of amenities, the growing community cannot maximise the reserve in its current form.
The new facility will service park users, sporting activities and the nearby Highgate Primary School.
What will the new toilet facility look like?
The new facility will service park users, sporting activities and the nearby Highgate Primary School.
It will have one universal accessible public toilet, two unisex changeroom cubicles and a storage room.
The public toilet will be auto locked and open to the public between set hours.
The two unisex changeroom cubicles will be locked and available for hire.
The storage will be used by Highgate Primary and sporting clubs.
What is happening to the parkour play equipment?
The parkour play equipment is staying. We will endeavour to keep this open, however due to safety, the area may need to be closed at times throughout construction.
Will any vegetation be removed as part of the works?
There will be minimal impact to the existing environment. Some vegetation will be trimmed to improve sightlines to the new facility.
Is there anything else planned for the park outside of this project scope?
Yes, the City is considering upgrading the sports floodlighting to assist with the growth of sport across Vincent.
Our growing sporting clubs are running out of spaces to train and the existing lights do not meet current standards to allow training to be undertaken.
The project scope is yet to be confirmed and further details will be shared, once determined.
