Background
The City of Vincent has reviewed the existing Street Tree Policy and is seeking feedback on proposed amendments.
The Street Tree Policy was adopted by Council August 2018 and was due to be reviewed in 2023.
The policy provides guidance for the effective management and protection of street trees within the City of Vincent.
At its November meeting, Council approved the proposed amendments to the Street Tree Policy for the purposes of community consultation.
Policy details
The proposed amendments to this policy are intended to improve management and protection of trees in Vincent's thoroughfares.
Key changes are summarised below:
- Street tree selection and planting to preference native tree species, enhance streetscape diversity and provide continuity of canopy coverage.
- Introduction of street tree protection requirements for developers and landowners carrying out works on or next to the verge area.
- Permissions for street tree attachments (such as swings, rope ladders, tree houses, decorations and lighting) have been retained. This was introduced in the 2018 Street Tree Policy and has been monitored since adoption.
- The existing Policy Guidelines and Procedures section is being reviewed separately and will be presented to Council to note in conjunction with the adoption of the revised policy.
A copy of the revised policy is available for review in the documents section to the right of this page.
