Consultation has concluded

The City is proposing to name the lane running parallel to Lincoln Street between William Street and Bulwer Avenue, Perth, known as Lot 66 on Plan 1177. The City invites you to share your thoughts on the proposal.

The laneway is currently unnamed.

Robusta Lane

The proposed name is Robusta Lane in reference to the tree, Washingtonia Robusta, or Cotton Palm. The name appears to satisfy Landgate's naming standards.

The lane proposed for naming lies perpendicular to William Street, opposite the eastern boundary of Hyde Park. The City accepts that due to the presence of the tree in the landscape of Hyde Park, and proximity of the lane, that the proposal is suitable and fits within the context of the area. Therefore the City supports in principle the proposal of the name ‘Robusta Lane’.

Robusta Lane satisfies the Landgate criteria for nomenclature in that it is:

  • Is a single name element followed by a road type;
  • Does not duplicate an existing road name within the local government area; and
  • The name is not used in an existing street or place in WA.

Robusta Lane is non-compliant with the Landgate criteria for nomenclature:

  • No more than six letters long;

To support the application, the applicant has undertaken documentary research, which can be viewed in the Document Library, and photograph examples of the tree from within the park.
