Purdue Lane

The City is proposing to name the laneway extending between Loftus Street and Oxford Street, parallel to Anzac Road and Salisbury Street, in Leederville.

The proposed name (Purdue Lane) is in commemoration of Grenville Purdue, who lived at 37 Salisbury Street, Leederville. Grenville, who was born in Victoria is 1876, moved to Western Australia with his family in 1902. They purchased their long-term family home at 37 Salisbury Street around 1915, which has seen three generations live at the property. Grenville worked as Chief Inspector in the Criminal Investigation Department and as the President of the Western Australian Police Union. Grenville Purdue was a highly respected resident of Leederville who contributed both to Vincent and to the wider Western Australian community.

Purdue Lane satisfies Landgate’s criteria for a road name in that it:

• is a single name element followed by a road type;
• does not duplicate an existing road name within the local government area;
• the name is not used in an existing street or place in WA; and
• is no more than six letters long.

Purdue Lane is considered pursuant to Criteria 2 of the City’s Road Naming Criteria – Vincent identities, including persons with historical connections to Vincent and a proven association with the area in which the naming proposal is located. This can include:

• persons who have made a significant contribution to the area; and/or
• persons who have made a significant contribution to the Vincent community.

Where is the lane?

The lane identified for naming extends between Loftus Street and Oxford Street, parallel to Anzac Road and Salisbury Street, in Leederville.

The naming is to be applied to Lot 167 on Plan 2358, and Lot 166 on Plan 2358.

About the process

This laneway proposal was submitted to the City of Vincent by a community member. If a consultation receives community consent, the City will submit a road naming application to Landgate. Landgate will then approve or deny the application. The City will send letters to nearby residents and owners in regards to the outcome of this consultation.
