Consultation closed

The intersection of Harold Street and Lord Street has a significant history of accidents and has been identified as an accident Blackspot. A Blackspot is an area with an accident history of 5 or more reported accidents in the last five years.

Over the last five years, 19 accidents have been reported, with two needing medical attention and two hospitalisations. It is important that we improve safety at this intersection.

Intersection Treatment

On review of the available options, the City is proposing to extend the median in the centre of Lord Street through the intersection. This would stop traffic from being able to turn right across multiple lanes and create two, left turn only intersections. The proposed change is pictured below. Other options such as a roundabout or traffic signals have been considered but are not possible due to the nature of the site.

Consultation

This proposal will affect traffic movements within the area; however, it is expected to provide ongoing safety benefits for the community. The City has been considering this project for a number of years, and seeks your input to implement or close out the issue.

A simple ‘yes' or 'no’ answer will help the City determine the level of community support, with further comments encouraged regarding the median closure. The consultation period has now closed.
