Policy Development and Review

The City of Vincent is reviewing its Policy Development and Review Policy and is seeking community feedback on proposed changes.

Background

The existing Policy Development and Review Policy was developed in consultation with Council Members and adopted at the Council Meeting 15 December 2020.

It aims to support transparent and consistent decision making, in line with the City’s objectives, strategic priorities and legal requirements.

The policy governs the creation and maintenance of all corporate strategic documents (strategies, policies and action plans). Its objectives are to:

• Identify the legal hierarchy of governing documents.
• Align all documented City positions (strategies, policies, and action plans) with the priorities of the Strategic Community Plan.
• Guide Council and Administration on the development, consultation, implementation, review, amendment and repeal of policy documents.

Council reviews this policy every four years to ensure continued relevance and alignment with the City's priorities.

In December 2024 Council approved the proposed amendments to the Policy Development and Review Policy for the purpose of community consultation.

Proposed amendments

The following changes to the policy are proposed:

1. Change of title, using the more inclusive Corporate Document Development Policy to reflect that it also includes strategies and action plans.
2. Classification of amendments as complex, standard or administrative, each with its own requirement to guide the level of community consultation to be undertaken.

There is no change proposed to the Policy objectives, listed above in 'Background'..

What will happen next?

After this consultation period closes, feedback we receive will be reviewed and a report presented to Council for consideration.

Everyone who provides feedback, and contact details, will be notified when this will be considered by Council. Members of the public are welcome to attend the Council Briefing and Council Meeting to ask questions or comment on the proposal.
