Pembroke Lane

The proposed name is Pembroke Lane in commemoration of a historically proposed street that was never constructed, Pembroke Street was proposed to run between Shakespeare Street and London Street, Mount Hawthorn. The name appears to satisfy Landgate's naming standards.

The City acknowledges that Pembroke Lane does not fall under the category of a historically significant event and fails to fall under any criteria. Although, we support the name because the name was intended for the area and is named after a British town or city, matching the theme of the area.

There are currently two other Pembroke streets in Perth: one in Bicton and one in Wangara. The Historic plans in the document library show Pembroke Street being planned but closed as per Act 31 of 1939.

Landgate state that laneways and short roads should have no more than 6 letters in the name. Although, the 8 letter name, Pembroke, aligns with lanes with in the area such as Merifield and Dilhorn. The lane runs across three blocks giving precedence to the longer name.

Pembroke Lane satisfies the Landgate criteria:

  • Is a single name element followed by a road type;
  • Does not duplicate an existing road name within the local government area;

Pembroke Lane is non-compliant with the Landgate criteria:

  • No more than six letters long
  • The name is used in an existing street of Place in WA

The applicant prepared research to support the proposal. This can be found in the Document Library.

Where is the lane?

The City is proposing to name part of the lane running north-south between Green, Dunedin, Woodstock and Shakespeare, connecting Woodstock to Green in Mt Hawthorn, known as lot 66, 67, 68 and 69 on Plan 2816 and Lot 75 on Plan 11538. The City invites you to share your thoughts on the proposal.
