Background
We are seeking community feedback on the Mini Roundabouts pilot project in North Perth which was installed in conjunction with Main Roads WA in 2021.
Early in 2020 Main Roads WA invited the City of Vincent to participate in its Urban Road Safety Program (URSP). The focus of the pilot project was to include the intersections with a crash risk, but which were ineligible for Black Spot or other funding.
Their approach involved applying several low-cost standard designs at once, area-wide or whole of street, such as mini roundabouts and speed restrictions.
Mini roundabouts are regarded as an effective, low cost means of reducing the likelihood of traffic accidents on local roads. They are 3m in diameter, compared to the 6m diameter of a typical roundabout which means reduced construction costs as there is no need for road widening.
Following community consultation, a pilot project to install mini roundabouts at nine intersections in North Perth, in the area bounded by Ethel Street, Raglan Road, Hyde Street and Chelmsford Road was endorsed by Council at its meeting 18 May 2021.
In addition to the introduction of the mini roundabouts, Main Roads WA also approved making the pilot area a 40km/h Speed Zone.
The project was fully funded by the Road Safety Commission.

This pilot project has now been in place for more than two years, and we are interested in hearing from local residents and the wider community what your experience of the mini roundabouts, and the 40km/h speed zone, has been.
We are interested in how effective you think these measures have been in making the area feel safer, as a pedestrian, cyclist or motorist.
Does the area feel more walkable and person friendly as a result? Do cars slow down? Are you aware of more/less accidents and near-misses?

After this consultation period closes, any feedback we receive will be reviewed, and a summary shared with Main Roads WA who funded the pilot through their Urban Road Safety Program.
Everyone who provides feedback will be notified if any subsequent reports are due to be considered by Council. Members of the public are always welcome to attend Council Briefings and Council Meetings to ask questions or make comment.
