Consultation has concluded

The City is proposing to name the laneway between Anzac Road, Loftus Street, Marian Street, and Oxford Street, in Leederville. The laneway extends from Anzac Road to Marian Street, crossing over Salisbury and Franklin Streets.

The proposed name (Melaleuca Lane) acknowledges native Australian Melaleuca trees. Melaleuca trees can be found in significant numbers in the streets surrounding the laneway. Melaleuca trees have historically been valued and utilised by Indigenous people for a wide range of uses. They now provide a number of advantages to communities including providing shade, improving air quality, and benefitting mental health.

Melaleuca Lane satisfies Landgate’s criteria for a road name in that it:

  • is a single name element followed by a road type;
  • does not duplicate an existing road name within the local government area; and
  • the name is not used in an existing street or place in WA.

Melaleuca Lane does not satisfy Landgate’s criteria for a road name in that it:

  • is more than six letters long.

This does not disqualify the name from being considered by Landgate after community approval.

Melaleuca Lane is considered pursuant to Criteria 4 of the City’s Road Naming Criteria – Flora and fauna local to the area in which the naming proposal is located.

The applicant's proposal can be found in the Document Library.

Where is the lane?

The lane identified for naming runs from Anzac Road to Marian Street, crossing over Salisbury and Franklin Streets. The lane is currently split into different parcels known as Lots 167,168 and 169 on Plan 2358, Lot 32 on Plan 27973, Lot 50 and 66 on Plan 2287.

About the process

This laneway proposal was submitted to the City of Vincent by a community member. If a consultation receives community consent, the City will submit a road naming application to Landgate. Landgate will then approve or deny the application. The City will send letters to nearby residents and owners in regards to the outcome of this consultation. An alternative name for this laneway must be submitted via the online application form before the consultation period for this proposal closes. If an alternative name is found to be suitable, a separate consultation for that proposal will be advertised.
