Update

Since we consulted on library services in late 2024, we are using what we heard to improve the services we offer. This includes keeping the things you valued about what we currently do and exploring your suggestions for change. Three months on, we are/have:

Library collections

  1. Refreshing the collection with less old stock and more current and up-to-date books (more best-sellers, notable books and book prize winners).
  2. Introduced automatic renewals – loaned items are automatically renewed from their due date – maximum of two times (excludes reserved items).
  3. Improving the library layout and shelving to make it easier to browse and find titles of interest.
  4. Increasing the number of copies available to borrow for popular titles that have long waiting lists.
  5. Updating our selection criteria to have a more diverse range of subjects and formats, such as graphic novels.
  6. Refreshing the magazine collection.

Customer engagement and experience

  1. Developing a library app to improve user experience, access to the catalogue, create 'to be read' lists, event bookings and communication channels.
  2. Widened the doors to the local history centre and meeting rooms to meet current accessibility standards.
  3. New public computers - and more on the way!
  4. Developing new programs and services such as the recent author talk, Creating Cockatoo Friendly Suburbs.
  5. Changed the layout of the young adult space.

Coming soon

  1. Review alternatives to providing the service out of current business hours.
  2. Customer service training – provide better assistance with eResources and managing diverse needs of the community.
  3. New signage to help navigate the library shelves – temporary signage for now until we get new shelving next year.
  4. Reducing the cost of colour printing for next financial year.

Thank you again for your feedback.

Background

The City of Vincent is asking our Library members and the wider community to tell us how we're doing and what you'd like to see more or less of.

There are 232 local public libraries throughout WA. Every year, Western Australians borrow more than 16 million books, electronic books, audiobooks, magazines, DVDs and other items to keep themselves educated, informed and entertained.

The City of Vincent library currently has almost 9,000 members who last year borrowed over 190,000 items.

The Library team regularly reviews the services we offer and this information is used to improve the experience for users and to introduce new services that meet community needs.

The survey is conducted annually which allows us to compare responses year-on-year.

Project Description

The 2024 Vincent Library survey will help us review and improve our services so everyone's feedback (members and non-members alike) is invaluable.

If you're a member, we are particularly interested to understand more about:

  • how you use the library
  • which services are most important to you
  • whether your experience of those services is good
  • how you find out about what is happening at the library
  • any ideas you have for improvement

If you're not a member (don’t have a library card or never even been to Vincent Library), you can still do this survey! Start by telling us why you're not using the library at the moment.
