From March to May 2019, we will be creating an exciting new shared space in the heart of Leederville by raising a section of Newcastle Street to footpath level. The result will be a pedestrian-friendly space for cars, cyclists and people to share.
The works will consist of:
Raising a section of Newcastle Street to footpath level
The addition of two new street trees to provide more shade for alfresco dining
Installation of retractable bollards to allow for closure of Newcastle Street, between Oxford Street and Carr Place
The addition of retractable bollards and a road area flush with the footpath will make the new Leederville Village Square the perfect venue for community events and festivals.
Important information
Construction will commence Monday 18 March. During this time, Newcastle Street will be closed to vehicles from Oxford Street to Carr Place, with traffic and bus route 15 diverted to Leederville Parade and Vincent Street as per the below map.
Pedestrian and footpath access will be unaffected and all businesses in Leederville will remain open.
For more information, please contact Rana Murad, Place Manager at rana.murad@vincent.wa.gov.au or call 9273 6000.
