The City of Vincent is proposing to name the laneway between Ethel and Norfolk streets, running off Raglan Road, in North Perth and is seeking community feedback.

Background

The City of Vincent's Policy No. 2.28 Laneways and Rights of Way includes guidance on Road Naming Criteria (Item 5.2) and additional information is also available on our website.

Landgate is the State organisation which approves the naming of roads and their Policies and Standards for Geographical Naming in Western Australia provides further information on this process.

Project Details

Vincent is proposing to name the laneway between Ethel and Norfolk streets, running off Raglan Road, in North Perth, 'Lark Lane'.

The proposed name relates to the Magpie Lark which can be found in backyards across the North Perth area. The surrounding tree canopy and proximity to Hyde Park means North Perth is a particularly vibrant place for bird life. This naming speaks to this element of North Perth’s local identity.

Lark Lane satisfies Landgate’s criteria for a road name in that it:

  • is a single name element followed by a road type
  • does not duplicate an existing road name within the local government area
  • does not duplicate an existing road name within 10km
  • is less than six letters long.

If this consultation receives community support, we will submit a road naming application to Landgate. Landgate will then approve or deny the application.

What will happen next?

The City will send letters to nearby residents and owners in regard to the outcome of this consultation.

Everyone who provides feedback, and their contact details, when completing the survey, will be kept updated on progress.
