Proposed Laneway Naming - Mt Hawthorn

The City of Vincent is proposing to name the laneway between Coogee and Matlock streets in Mt Hawthorn and is seeking community feedback.
Background
The City of Vincent's Policy No. 2.28 Laneways and Rights of Way includes guidance on Road Naming Criteria (Item 5.2) and additional information is also available on our website.
Landgate is the State organisation which approves the naming of roads and their Policies and Standards for Geographical Naming in Western Australia provides further information on this process.
Project Details
Vincent is proposing to name the laneway between Coogee and Matlock Streets in Mt Hawthorn, 'Cockatoo Lane'.
The name recognises the Black Cockatoos that visit each July to pick the yellow leaves off a cluster of Honey Locust trees adjacent the laneway. The cockatoos discard the leaves onto the laneway floor, leaving it a bright yellow colour.
Cockatoo Lane satisfies Landgate’s criteria for a road name in that it:
- is a single name element followed by a road type; and
- does not duplicate an existing road name within 10km.
Cockatoo Lane does not satisfy the Landgate criteria in that it is more than six letters long.
This does not disqualify the name from being considered by Landgate after community approval.
This laneway proposal was submitted to the City of Vincent by a community member. If this consultation receives community support, we will submit a road naming application to Landgate. Landgate will then approve or deny the application.
