Background
We're seeking community feedback on a proposal to change the intersection of Fitzgerald Street and Lawley Street.
Between 2016 and 2020 the Fitzgerald Street and Lawley Street intersection has recorded a total of 10 crashes, with two requiring hospitalisation or medical treatment.
The Black Spot project aims to mitigate the severity of accidents at this intersection by banning right turn movements from Lawley Street onto Fitzgerald Street by installing a half seagull island on Lawley Street and a narrow median island on Fitzgerald Street.
The project will be funded through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program, which aims to reduce crashes and save lives on Australian roads by funding works at high-risk locations.
Benefits:
- Enhanced safety for pedestrians and motorists
- Reduces speed, traffic volume and crash risks
Project details:
- Installing half seagull island to enable left turn only movement from Lawley Street into Fitzgerald Street, reducing potential incidents
