Electric Vehicle Charging Station - Brookman and Moir Streets
This consultation is now closed, and feedback is being reviewed.
Background
The City of Vincent is considering installing public charging facilities for electric vehicles (EVs) in existing parking bays on Forbes Road and would like your feedback on the proposal.
In Vincent we have three electric vehicle charging points available for community use. A charging point is a plug-in bollard structure that electric vehicles can plug into to recharge.
Many EV owners are able to charge their vehicles at home, but some people living in apartments, or those without direct vehicle access to their property, need to use public facilities.
Most properties in the Brookman/Moir heritage area and a number of properties in the surrounding streets do not have onsite vehicle access. This means that these residents cannot charge EVs within their lot boundary.
Western Australian safety regulations don't allow an electricity supply to cross lot boundaries, meaning property owners can't install private chargers on the Council verge or footpath.
Due to a lack of space, Brookman and Moir Streets are not suitable locations for installing public EV charging equipment.
In response to requests from residents in the Brookman/Moir heritage area, we are looking into options and are currently considering locating a public EV charging station in two existing parking bays along Forbes Road.
Whether or not you drive an electric vehicle, please take a minute to help us assess this proposal by completing the short survey below.
Project details
The proposed EV charging station would be located within the embayed public parking area on Forbes Road, opposite Brookman Street and adjacent to Forbes Lane, as shown in the image below. The orange rectangle indicates the area proposed for EV charging.
The charging station would consist of two single vehicle chargers located on the footpath adjacent to the area highlighted above.
Charging facilities would comprise two 22kW EV chargers with universal Type 2 socket which would require 'bring your own' charging leads.
Two car spaces would be reserved for EV charging, allowing for two vehicles to be charged at one time.
The reserved EV charging spaces would be exempt from parking fees, but fees would apply for charging vehicles.
