Duck Lane

Consultation has concluded

The City is proposing to name the laneway between Chelmsford and Grosvenor Roads, and Fitzgerald and William Streets, and will be submitting the naming application to Landgate.

The proposed name (Duck Lane) acknowledges the native fauna of Hyde Park.

The lane is within walking distance to Hyde Park and falls under the theme in naming lanes around Hyde Park relative to native Flora and Fauna.

Ducks can be seen throughout Hyde Park. ‘Duck’ Lane was proposed as an alternative to a current proposal to name the laneway ‘Chenonetta’ Lane - Chenonetta Jubata is the species name for an Australian Wood Duck. When both community consultations have closed, the proposal with the most support will be submitted to Landgate for approval.

Duck Lane satisfies Landgate’s criteria for a road name in that it:

  • is a single name element followed by a road type;
  • does not duplicate an existing road name within the local government area;
  • the name is not used in an existing street or place in WA; and
  • is no more than six letters long.

Duck Lane is considered pursuant to Criteria 4 of the City’s Road Naming Criteria – Flora and fauna local to the area in which the naming proposal is located.

The City and Landgate support the name as it is considered close enough to draw inspiration from Hyde Park.

The applicant's proposal can be found in the Document Library

Where is the lane?

The lane identified for naming runs parallel to Chelmsford and Grosvenor Road, between Fitzgerald and William Street, crossing Hyde, Norfolk, and Ethel Streets, in North Perth and Mount Lawley. The lane is currently split into 4 different parcels known as Lots 168,169 and 170 on Plan 2539 and Lot 302 on Plan 30661.

The lane is 150m away from Hyde Park.

About the process

This laneway proposal was submitted to the City of Vincent by a community member. If a consultation receives community consent, the City will submit a road naming application to Landgate. Landgate will then approve or deny the application. The City will send letters to nearby residents and owners in regards to the outcome of this consultation. An alternative name for this laneway must be submitted via the online application form before the consultation period for this proposal closes. If an alternative name is found to be suitable, a separate consultation for that proposal will be advertised.
