Consultation has concluded
The City of Vincent is proposing to name the laneway located between Norham Street and Little Walcott Street in North Perth.
In historical North Perth maps from the early 1990s, the laneway is labelled as "No. 1 Street". The name "No. 1 Street" does not comply with Landgate’s Policies and Standards for Geographical Naming in Western Australia, and therefore the laneway does not currently have a name.
This presents an issue as some lots on Blake and Mabel Streets are being subdivided and properties are being constructed which are solely accessible from this laneway. In order for these properties to have an address the laneway needs to be named.
Donley Lane
Donley Lane is proposed as an appropriate name as it has historical significance to the local area and it satisfies Landgate's naming standards. Donley was the name of a family owned and run grocery business which was located on the corner of Mabel and Norham Street from 1922 to 1965. The name references a long standing family business and an institution of the early and mid 1990s, the corner grocery store.
Donley Lane satisfies the Landgate criteria for nomenclature in that it is:
No more than six letters long;
Is a single name element followed by a road type;
Does not duplicate an existing road name within the local government area; and
The name is not used in an existing street or place in WA.
Full details of the history of the name Donley and its assessment against the Landgate criteria can be found in the Road Naming Application Form.
