The Access and Inclusion Plan (formerly known as our Disability Access and Inclusion Plan) is a strategic document that outlines the actions that will be taken to improve Access and Inclusion and to foster an equitable environment across the City of Vincent. It is a document that helps guide how we provide services, run events, plan new public spaces and generally ensure access for our whole community. Having an Access and Inclusion Plan (Plan) is also a requirement for all Local Governments under the Disability Services Act 1993.

What happened?

Our last Plan expired in 2022 and we developed a new draft Plan for 2022-2027. In order to ensure the new Plan met the needs of our community, we engaged with our community and stakeholders from the beginning of the development process. A number of engagement sessions were held during the community engagement phase including a community workshop and pop ups at Beatty Park and Kyilla Farmers Market and one on one discussions were held with both City staff and community members. Following this, we used the ideas and feedback received to write our draft Plan. We then asked for feedback from the wider public on the draft plan before it was adopted by Council.

When did it happen?

The initial community engagement phase ran from November 2021 until the end of January 2022. The draft Plan was developed then reviewed by stakeholders (including the groups and individuals who attended our community workshop) and submitted to the Ordinary Meeting of Council in May 2022, where it received approval to be advertised for public consultation. The final Plan was adopted at the Ordinary Meeting of Council on 26 July 2022.

Graphic design for the draft plan, including pictures, was completed after the Plan was finalised and adopted. The Plan is available to view on our website here https://www.vincent.wa.gov.au/documents/181/access-and-inclusion-plan-2022-2027
