The City of Vincent’s desire to give its community members the strongest possible input into its decision making is the catalyst for a new Community Engagement Framework.

The draft Community and Stakeholder Engagement Strategy and Policy are set to become crucial guides for how the City speaks with and listens to the Vincent community.

Workshops held with Elected Members, key staff and community members in November and December 2020 identified the need for a framework that guides the way the City engages with its community.

The framework clearly identifies how and when the City will consult with the community and is designed to foster connection and engagement across Vincent.

Key actions in the framework include a review of the City’s engagement tools and the creation of a toolkit to guide engagement strategies.

The framework consists of a Community and Stakeholder Engagement Strategy (Strategy), a Community and Stakeholder Engagement Policy (Policy) and supporting guidelines.

The draft Strategy outlines the vision for community engagement and seeks to:

  • outline the principles that guide the way we will engage with our community and stakeholders;
  • provide context for why community engagement is important to us; and
  • provide an action plan to improve the way we engage and communicate with our community and stakeholders.

The draft Policy is prepared under the Local Government Act 1995 and seeks to:

  • detail the City’s commitment to effective and relevant community and stakeholder engagement;
  • detail the process for community and stakeholder engagement;
  • facilitate informed decision making;
  • improve information delivery and sharing; and
  • promote a consistent, inclusive, transparent and accessible approach to engagement.

You can view the draft strategy, draft policy and report to Council via the document library (see right side of the page).

What is happening now?

The strategy and policy were both adopted at the Ordinary Meeting of Council held on 27 April 2021.

The framework is now guiding all consultation activities being undertaken by the City.

Administration is also working toward completing each of the action items listed within the Strategy.
