Update

Following feedback received during the consultation period some areas of eco-zoning have been revised. The revised plan is available to view in the Documents tab to the right of this page.

Background

There is an upcoming eco-zoning project at Charles Veryard Reserve and the adjoining Macedonia Place carpark improvements.

Eco-zoning is the conversion of underutilised turf areas into waterwise native gardens. Over time, this not only saves water but also increases habitat and biodiversity.

Project Details

The City of Vincent has developed a plan to create new native garden beds around the perimeter of the reserve. This will also include creation of garden areas and tree planting in Macedonia Place carpark using Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) principles.

Please see the proposed plans attached for Charles Veryard Reserve eco-zoning and Macedonia Place carpark improvements.

  • The proposed eco-zone areas have been identified in line with the current irrigation systems and design to maximise water efficiency. This means we can reduce the water usage in these areas without affecting the sports grounds.
  • Use of WSUD principles to capture carpark water runoff within landscaped areas.

The proposed design for Macedonia Place carpark uses WSUD principles to capture carpark water runoff within landscaped areas. The design also incorporates tree planting that will achieve a 60 per cent canopy coverage in line with the City’s Greening Plan.

Vincent is proposing to plant a variety of low growing native shrubs in newly created gardens to promote biodiversity, create habitat for local fauna and improve the overall aesthetics of this reserve and adjoining carpark.

As part of the City's Greening Plan, we aim to:

  • Increase tree canopy cover on land managed by the City of Vincent.
  • Increase the diversity and overall height of trees and other vegetation.
  • Linking areas of existing habitat and biodiversity through new habitat plantings across the City.
