Castellorizo Lane

The proposed name is Castellorizo Lane to acknowledge the large amount of Greek immigrants from the Island of Castellorizo, being the most eastern point in Greek possession. The name appears to satisfy Landgate's naming standards.

The right of way running parallel to Oxford St to the west, is proposed in recognition of the Castellorizian Greek population within Mt Hawthorn and Leederville. The name is supported by the Castellorizian Association of WA, whose headquarters are nearby. The Greek immigrants of the 20th century aided in forming the suburbs into what they are today.

Castellorizo Lane is considered to be culturally significant to the area as the community played a large part in forming what is present today. This is consistent with the City's Road Naming Criteria 5 (“a culturally significant historic event, architectural style, artwork, waterway or other culturally iconic element connected with the area”). 327 Oxford St abuts the lane and was a former Castellorizian resident and business owners property, Mr and Mrs Kongras who ran Pure Olive Oil in the suburb for over 40 years.

Castellorizo Lane satisfies the Landgate criteria:

  • Is a single name element followed by a road type;
  • Does not duplicate an existing road name within the local government area; and
  • The name is not used in an existing street or place in WA.

Castellorizo Lane does not satisfy the Landgate criteria

  • No more than six letters long.

The applicant prepared research to support the proposal. These can be found in the Document Library.

Where is the lane?

Located behind 327 Oxford St is a right of way identified as Lot 66 on Plan 2554. This right of way runs north-south from Brittannia St to Bennelong Pl and has access to Brentham St Reserve. The City invites you to share your thoughts on the proposal.

The laneway is currently unnamed.
