Background

We're seeking community feedback on a proposal to change the intersection of Broome Street and Wright Street.

Between 2016 and 2020 the Broome Street and Wright Street intersection has recorded a total of five crashes, with two requiring hospitalisation or medical treatment.

This Black Spot project aims to mitigate the severity of accidents by installing a roundabout. Roundabouts reduce oncoming speed and manage the traffic flow in one direction through the intersection.

The project will be funded through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program, which aims to reduce crashes and save lives on Australian roads by funding works at high-risk locations.

Modelling and research conducted by Vincent has shown that the proposed roundabout is the most effective and safe option to reduce risk at this intersection.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced safety for pedestrians and motorists
  • Improved lighting
  • Reduces speed, traffic volume and crash risks

Project details:

  • Install a roundabout to improve visibility of and slow down oncoming traffic for road users
  • Install crossings for pedestrians
