Consultation has concluded

The City is proposing to name the lane known as Lot 166 on Plan 1106, that runs parallel to Lincoln Street between Cavendish and William Streets, and intersecting Martyr Lane, Highgate. The City is looking at proposing a name to Landgate, and we would like to know your thoughts about our proposal.

The laneway is currently unnamed.

Blazevic Lane

The proposed name is Blazevic Lane in reference to a deceased resident of Vincent active within the local area, and it appears to satisfy Landgate's naming standards.

Blazevic is the family name of the local playwright, author and journalist, George Blazevic. George grew up in Stirling Street, Highgate, and worked early in his career as a journalist for The West Australian. His real contributions to Perth’s cultural scene came from his work as a playwright, beginning in the late 1980s. The arguable highlight of George’s playwriting career came from the 1993 production ‘Giles, is That You?’, a contemporary opera which was the smash hit of the 1993 Artrage.

Unfortunately George passed away in February 2016. For his contribution to the Perth Arts and Cultural community, a Fringe World award is named each year for best writing or performance by a WA writer. The award is called ‘The Blaz’.

Blazevic Lane satisfies the Landgate criteria for nomenclature in that it is:

  • Is a single name element followed by a road type;
  • Does not duplicate an existing road name within the local government area; and
  • The name is not used in an existing street or place in WA.

Blazevic Lane is non-compliant with the Landgate criteria for nomenclature:

  • No more than six letters long;

To support the application, the Local History team has undertaken interviews and documentary research, which can be viewed in the Document Library.
