Update

The Bike Network Plan 2023-2028 consultation period is now closed, and a report (Item 10.1) was presented to Council on Tuesday 25 July 2023.

Community feedback from this consultation was reflected in the report through minor amendments to:

  • Action 16 (in the longer term to investigate options for segregated or protected cycling infrastructure along the Oxford Street corridor)
  • Action 19 (propose a community route at Britannia Reserve)
  • Action 47 (provide a bike kerb ramp at Brisbane Street cul-de-sac).

Council adopted the Bike Plan 2023-2028 as detailed in Item 10.1, Attachment 2, with a further amendment to Action 19 removing the wording 'along the eastern side of Britannia Reserve to provide a community...'.

Action 19 now reads as follows:

'Investigate options to provide for a safe cycling route for local movements between Britannia Road and Bourke Street.'

The amendment reflects community concerns expressed during this consultation about pedestrian safety at Britannia Reserve.

Help shape the future of bike riding in the City of Vincent

In collaboration with the Department of Transport, the City of Vincent is updating its Bike Network Plan 2013 to better reflect the Council endorsed Long Term Cycle Network (2020) and to focus on measures to increase cycling participation within the City for people of all ages and cycling abilities.

The City of Vincent previously consulted with the community on the Draft Bike Network Plan in late 2022 and early 2023. This consultation focused on what is currently working well and what improvements were needed to the current cycling infrastructure that is used by residents and the wider community.

The objective of previous consultation was to:

  • Build evidence and demonstrate the benefits of cycling for the community.
  • Contribute to a healthy and active community.
  • Provide and improve an easy and interconnected bicycle network.
  • Enhance safety for everyone cycling.
  • Overall environmental improvements.

Vincent used several methods to collect feedback including an interactive map, face-to-face drop in sessions and market information sessions. More than 600 community members provided their feedback during this previous consultation period.

The City of Vincent used this information to develop the Draft Bike Network Plan, which can be downloaded under documents. We are now seeking your thoughts on this draft plan.

    City of Vincent Network Bike Plan 2023-2028

    Have your say and help shape the future of bike riding in the City of Vincent.

    This is the final community consultation opportunity ahead of the adoption of this plan.
