Beaufort Street Town Centre Planning Framework
Update
The visioning and design stages of this consultation are complete.
We can now share an Engagement Report detailing the workshops, surveys and 'walkshop' activities and outcomes. The report is also available to view in the Document library to the right of this page.
The next step will be to present the draft Town Centre Planning Framework to Council for approval to consult again with community.
Background
The City of Vincent is developing a Planning Framework for the Beaufort Street Town Centre and is asking the community to share their vision for the area.
Private development in the Beaufort Street Town Centre is guided by Vincent’s Policy No. 7.1.1 Built Form and improvements to the public realm are guided by the Beaufort Street Place Plan.
Vincent is preparing a plan for the Beaufort Street Town Centre to guide its future development. The plan will consider specific elements such as seating options in the public realm, through to the scale and design of buildings.
The Beaufort Street Town Centre is located between Walcott Street and St Albans Street and includes Beaufort Street itself.
It is home to a diverse mix of businesses, supported by a strong sense of place and unique, thriving hospitality scene.
Its established character and brand, synonymous as a premier hospitality centre, contribute to its distinct sense of identity.
Project details
The aim of this project is to guide future development for the Beaufort Street Town Centre. We are asking community to help shape what that should look like.
A Planning Framework and Place Plan is being prepared, which means that there will be one document to look at for all development within the Beaufort Street Precinct.
The framework will consider each of the priorities listed in the Strategic Community Plan but is not limited by that.
A context analysis study has already taken place to help us understand the existing conditions, opportunities and constraints.
As part of this consultation process, we are asking people about the findings of this analysis, and their vision for the Beaufort Street Town Centre.
Share your thoughts
Following on from the above, we've created a Design survey to help us drill down further into feedback received so far, as well as giving those who were unable to attend an opportunity to have a say.
The survey builds on the design workshop and aims to identify:
- strategies for future development in Beaufort Street and surrounds
- what type of development you'd like to see there
- where in that area you feel those developments should be located
- any improvements you'd like to see in the public realm
Being mindful of time, there are two versions, one takes just five minutes, and the other is more in-depth but will still only take about 15 minutes to complete - see below.
You can also contact us in any of the following ways:
- By phone 9273 6000
- By email mail@vincent.wa.gov.au
- In person at the City of Vincent Administration Building, 244 Vincent Street (corner Loftus Street), Leederville (during business hours)
- In writing, by mail to PO Box 82, Leederville, 6902
Consultation closed 4pm Tuesday, 16 July 2024.
What will happen next?
Feedback from the visioning and design stages will be reviewed and work on drafting the Beaufort Street Town Centre Planning Framework will start.
There will be further opportunities to participate and to let us know 'have we got it right?'.
Once a draft is developed, a report will be presented to Council for endorsement to formally advertise.
If you provide your contact details when completing the survey, you will be notified when the report will be considered by Council. Anyone is welcome to attend the Council Briefing and Council Meeting to ask questions or comment on the proposal.
