Update

Current

At its meeting on Tuesday, 12 August 2025, Council adopted the Beaufort Street Town Centre Planning Framework.

Further information can be viewed in the Minutes of this meeting.

The adopted document is available to view in the Documents section to the right of this page.

Background

The Planning Framework will guide future development by introducing planning controls and place planning actions to support the community’s vision.

It will consider specific elements from the design of open spaces in the public realm, through to the scale and design of buildings in the private realm.

The framework for Beaufort Street is for the town centre from Walcott Street at the ‘top’ to St Albans at the ‘bottom’.

It is home to a diverse mix of businesses, supported by a strong sense of place and unique, thriving hospitality scene.

Its established character and brand, synonymous as a premier hospitality centre, contribute to its distinct sense of identity.

The framework will consider each of the priorities listed in the Strategic Community Plan but is not limited by that.

A context analysis study has already taken place to help us understand the existing conditions, opportunities and constraints.
