May 2025

A report on the draft Beaufort Street Precinct Area, Road Safety Treatment Implementation Plan was presented at the May Council meeting.

At the meeting, Council noted the draft to date of the proposed Highgate Precinct Road Safety Implementation Plan, its key modelling findings and potential treatments and requested staff to engage with the Highgate and Mt Lawley community to:

  • inform it of the precinct wide modelling and findings
  • seek feedback on the potential treatments

Reports and minutes of Council meetings are available here.

A report on Beaufort Street Precinct Area Road Safety Treatments was then considered by Council.

At this meeting, Council supported the development of a 6-year Road Safety Implementation Plan to design and deliver the ‘Beaufort Street Nodes’ project and other road safety projects identified within the precinct.

The draft plan is to be presented to Council by May 2025.

Priority is to be given to works treating high crash areas and to the intersections of Beaufort Street with both Harold Street and Chatsworth Road.

Vincent will seek funding contributions through stakeholders such as Main Roads WA Blackspot program, Main Roads WA Low-Cost Urban Road Safety Program and any other applicable funding programs (road safety, cycling, walking and place-making improvements).

The minutes of the Council meeting are available to view on the City of Vincent website.

Feedback was reviewed and a report presented to Council. At this meeting an alternative recommendation was carried - the minutes are available to view here.

Background

We're seeking community feedback on a proposal to change the intersection of Beaufort Street and Harold Street.

Between January 2014 and December 2018, the Beaufort Street and Harold Street intersection has recorded a total of six crashes, with two requiring hospitalisation or medical treatment.

The intent of this Black Spot project is an attempt to mitigate the severity of accidents at this intersection by installing a half seagull islands on both east and west approaches of Harold Street and extend median along Beaufort Street between the staggered T intersections to prevent right turn movements.

The project will be funded through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program, which aims to reduce crashes and save lives on Australian roads by funding works at high-risk locations.

Benefits:

  • Reduces intersection crashes by eliminating conflict points associated with the closed leg
  • Increased pedestrian safety

We would like to know what you think of the proposed design to prevent future accidents at this location.

Are you supportive or not of the proposed design?

What will happen next?

Following community consultation, feedback will be summarised and a recommendation presented to Council. Should Council endorse the proposal, a detailed design will be developed.

Everyone who provides feedback will be notified when the project is due to be considered by Council. Members of the public are welcome to attend the Council Briefing and Council Meeting to ask questions or comment on the project.
