Update

Consultation closed on Wednesday 3 May, and community feedback has been reviewed. A report was presented to the Council Meeting on Tuesday 22 August 2023. At this meeting an alternative recommendation was carried.

More information, and a copy of the Minutes is available to view here.

Background

We're seeking community feedback on a proposal to change the intersection of Beaufort Street and Harold Street.

Between January 2014 and December 2018, the Beaufort Street and Harold Street intersection has recorded a total of six crashes, with two requiring hospitalisation or medical treatment.

The intent of this Black Spot project is an attempt to mitigate the severity of accidents at this intersection by installing a half seagull islands on both east and west approaches of Harold Street and extend median along Beaufort Street between the staggered T intersections to prevent right turn movements.

The project will be funded through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program, which aims to reduce crashes and save lives on Australian roads by funding works at high-risk locations.

Benefits:

  • Reduces intersection crashes by eliminating conflict points associated with the closed leg
  • Increased pedestrian safety

Project details:

  • Install a half seagull island to reduce right turn crashes
