Update

Playground - in February we presented two design options for the playground and asked which one you preferred.

We can now reveal that concept design two is the most popular option (see below).

This design incorporates more play equipment with a mixture of rubber soft fall and soft fall mulch.

Based on feedback, we will also be adding a 'barrier' between the playground itself and the flying fox component.

Work on the new playground is underway with completion expected for end of June (weather permitting). For any further updates, please visit the website.

Toilet block - to be installed at location 2 in 2025/26 as part of this upgrade - see the Maps section to the right.

A report seeking endorsement to proceed with the toilet block was presented at the Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 13 May. At this meeting, Council:

  1. Endorsed in principle the installation of a toilet block including storeroom at Beatty Park Reserve.
  2. Noted the $100,000 commitment from Perth Soccer Club through the Women’s World Cup Legacy Funding program to partially fund this project.
  3. Requested the final location, design and budget are presented to Council for authorisation prior to construction.

Reports and minutes of Council meetings are available here.

Background

Constructed in 2005, the playground at Beatty Park Reserve in North Perth has been well-used over the years but is in need of a refresh.

In September and October 2024, we asked for feedback on the play elements people would like to see in a new playground at Beatty Park Reserve.

Community told us they wanted slides, swings, monkey bars and tunnels. They also liked the flying foxes and spinning equipment they’d seen at other playgrounds.

This project is part of the City's playground renewal program and is funded through the 2024/25 Capital Works Budget.

Project details

There are two design proposals, one has full rubber softfall (Option One) and one has a combination of rubber softfall and sand softfall (Option Two). You will find the equipment descriptions for each in the Document library to the right of this page. Please note, all proposed colour palettes are indicative only and the final installation may differ.

Option One

This design proposes natural bush-themed features and colour palette. Rubber soft fall covers the entire play area, and re-positioned seating allows for better supervision.

The unique ‘Tropicana bungalo’ is a key attraction, with lots of scope for imaginary play, plus:

  • multiplay unit
  • sky rail (6m)
  • balance trail
  • rocker
  • double swing (infant and strap seat)

It is suitable for ages 0-12, has 27 activities and a capacity of 60+.

Option Two

This design proposes a coastal bush theme with colours and finishes to match. Predominantly sand softfall with rubber wear pads connecting to the paths and between activities.

The main attraction is the 25m ‘Sky rider’, providing dynamic play for teenagers as requested in feedback, plus:

  • Premium multiplay unit (tunnel, pole, monkey bar, spider web, turbo slide, staircase, story panel, sand play zone etc.).
  • Triple swing (nest, infant and strap seats).
  • Lorikeet rocker.

It is suitable for ages 0-12, has 18 activities and a capacity of 50+.
