The City of Vincent is reviewing the Attendance at Events Policy and is seeking community feedback on proposed changes.

Background

In accordance with the Local Government Act 1995 Councillors and the CEO are required to make disclosures, for example about gifts received.

In late 2019 the Act was amended to include a requirement about their attendance at events.

Attending events is an important aspect of Councillor and employee roles in representing the City, demonstrating support for the community and engaging with stakeholders and partners at events and festivals throughout the year.

In March 2021 Council adopted its current Attendance at Events Policy.

This policy has now been reviewed and in May 2025 Council approved the Attendance at Events Policy for the purpose of community consultation.

Policy details

Proposed amendments identified and included in the new draft policy include:

  • Definitions to provide clearer guidance and consistency in interpreting and applying the policy.
  • Additions to the list of pre-approved events.
  • Guidance and criteria for approving attendance at events which have not been pre-approved and in relation to the payment of fees.
  • A clause relating to 'excluded gifts' is to be removed and replaced with a new clause reiterating that excluded gifts over the value of $50 must still be declared under the gift register provisions.

A copy of the updated draft policy and current policy are available to view in the Documents section to the right of this page.
