The draft Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2022-2024 is the third Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) developed by the City of Vincent.

This draft RAP has been designed in partnership with Aboriginal Elders on the Bridya Elders Group, members of the RAP Working Group (RAPWG), staff and stakeholder groups and developed in consultation with Reconciliation Australia.

What has happened so far?

Through our previous two RAPs we have focused on building relationships, respect and opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within Vincent.

We have connected with Aboriginal people and businesses to celebrate Noongar culture and tradition in our community. We also aimed to create a more empathetic and culturally sensitive workplace.

You can view Vincent's previous Reconciliation Action Plans on the City website.

Highlights of the draft plan

You can read the draft Innovate RAP in the documents section of this page.

This draft RAP includes a range of actions focused around the framework of relationships, respect and opportunities.

Some key actions of the plan that expand on our previous two plans include:

  • work collaboratively with neighbouring local governments, acknowledging our boundaries have little meaning to Aboriginal people
  • provide opportunities for Elders and Aboriginal people to participate in truth telling about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples experiences
  • meet regularly with Aboriginal Elders to inform City decision making
  • host regular events or workshops throughout the year or in line with the Noongar Six Seasons to promote cultural awareness
  • work in partnership with other organisations to address homelessness
  • revive traditional names of significant places
  • develop a framework for a heritage trail of our significant sites
  • commission a significant Noongar artwork in a prominent City location
  • develop and implement a recruitment, retention and professional development strategy to achieve an aim of 3% of staff who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
  • develop and implement a strategy to achieve 3% procurement from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander owner businesses.

How can I submit my ideas and feedback, or find out more information?

We'd love to hear your thoughts on how some of these actions can be achieved in our local community.

You can complete the online survey before 5pm, Wednesday 13 July 2022.
